Along with the rest of the world, I have seen a number of things change over the last year. Over the course of the last few decades, the pharmaceutical industry saw its manufacturing being outsourced from the U.S., but during the last 9-12 months, we have seen the market opportunity grow for local manufacturing as the focus on bringing products back to America has increased. This has led to a number of new opportunities for Excite – we’re having conversations now (even with non-U.S.-based companies) looking to secure a manufacturing presence here. Excite has become a go-to partner in bringing the manufacturing of those products to the U.S.
A while back, Excite recognized there was a need for small-scale sterile manufacturing. There was a market demand for it that was not being met. Having a lot of experience working in the pharmaceutical world and in aseptic manufacturing, we knew there was a need we could fill. For years, we seemed to be one of the few offering these services, but with this new demand for local manufacturing, Excite has seen a new interest in our market by investment groups. As it usually does, this new piqued interest has led to new manufacturing organizations popping up all around, looking to find success with these newly interested investors.
In spite of the arrival of these new organizations on the scene, Exicte remains confident of what we have to offer, and – more importantly – our customers do too.
Excite has been working with our customers now for years to be a successful member of their team. Many of these new manufacturing organizations (and many of the existing ones, too) aren’t really experienced with the analytical side of our business, which is where Excite shines. We actually began as a chemistry laboratory and it shows now in the diversity of our offerings. By establishing our roots in the analytical side of the business, we’ve been able to transition smoothly over the years into additional products with the confidence that we would bring all the expertise needed to be successful when working with our customers on their projects – even the smaller ones our competitors might dismiss.
As many of our customers are well aware, there are thousands of products out there that are good, viable products, but they only have a very small manufacturing need. A perfect example of this would be Animal Health products. The quantity of their need is typically much lower than those of human products, so there are all these great products waiting to get to market, but the larger pharmaceutical companies just aren’t interested in working on them because of the low yield of the final quantity. Add to this that there tends to be more challenge with smaller projects, and many of our competitors – especially the newest ones – just don’t have the experience and expertise required to be successful with a smaller run of product.
Many of Excite’s best successes have come in the form of smaller projects we got right and then went on to become large projects after being welcomed to the market.
We have had several customers come to us saying others in the industry weren’t even interested in working with them before they met us. Now those same customers have been filed successfully and are with agencies awaiting approval as we speak. A few we even helped to develop their product and get into a position to sell to a larger company. Now that company is our customer, too.
We have worked with companies with a need of 20 batches or less per year – and then we grow with them. That is one of the most powerful advantages of going with Excite… we’re growing, too. We’ve gone through a tremendous amount of expansion and our customers see that all the time. We have every intention of continuing to grow by finding the right people and acquiring the best technology, and with that comes an availability of capacity many of our competitors just can’t offer right now.
